Southampton is a city of history, ships and nature. Medieval towers, walls and gates, including the famous Bargate are part of the walking tour. Ninety minute guided tours are available. Steep stairs may make some areas inaccessible to those with a handicap. On request special tours, including one for the visually impaired are available. God's House Tower guards the South Hampton Museum of Archeology. Some of the Tudor House museum artifacts are here during its' remodeling. View the model of South Hampton Old Town as it was in 1620. A rich trove of artifacts leads you to Southampton’s’ birth as a Roman settlement. A warehouse used for wool trading with Flanders and Italy until late in the 16th century is now home to the Maritime Museum. The ocean liner, Titanic and its’ impact on Southampton are the main exhibit. The South Hampton Ocean Liner Exhibition proudly displays historical objects, photos and relics of the QE2, Queen Mary and first Queen Elizabeth.
The New Forest west of Southampton offers attractions and activities for young and old.
Observe birds of prey in free flight and reptiles close up at Liberty’s Owl Raptor and Reptile Centre. Bring the family to Longdown Activity Farm, feed small animals, watch chicks hatch, visit Billy the shire horse and Kerry the Friesian cow. Let the kids loose in the activity areas with a ball pool, climbing frames, trampolines and a large straw barn.
The Marwell Zoological Park is not your ordinary wildlife park. The one hundred and forty acres is a sanctuary to over two hundred and fifty of the worlds exotic and endangered species. Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve is a 200 hectare wheelchair and buggie accessible educational and birdwatching center. Tour the Rothschild Collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, rare trees and shrubs at the Exbury Railroad and Steam Railway. Options are a twenty- minute train ride or guided buggy ride through the one hundred hectare site. Centered in New Forest National Park is Beaulieu. The major attractions are the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey, World of Top Gear and James Bond Exhibition.
